Be Courageous — Don’t Fear Failure

Reggie Jackson was known as “Mr. October”. During the regular season was a very good ballplayer. But during the postseason, especially late in games, Reggie was one of the greatest clutch hitters in baseball history. In 27 World Series games, he hit 10 home runs (including four in a row), had 24 RBI and batted .357. What was his secret? In an interview many years ago, Reggie said that the reason why he excelled in those situations when others failed was that he looked at the pressure situations as a chance to do something great. He said he knew he’d make an out 2/3 of the time. But more than one in three times, he knew he would excel and do something great. “Others looked at pressure situations and feared failure, but I saw those spots as an opportunity to succeed.” What a great lesson for all of us. We know that if we “step up to the plate” in difficult situations we WILL experience some failure. But if we prepare and take on the challenge, we will also enjoy some spectacular success. What can you do to become your own “Mr. or Ms. October”?
